This breakfast was born from the need for something quick, something filling and something with nutritional value. Sometimes I need breakfast on the go, so this is definitely a staple in my rotation. With that said, I actually notoriously dislike porridge… always have lol. There- I said it. Since I was a kid, something about the texture. My Mum used to make (what we called) Birdseed porridge- this is basically a 4 minute way of making it.
I found these gluten free Qi’a Superseeds & Grains Oatmeal packs with chia, buckwheat, hemp and quinoa at the grocery store. They are a perfect alternative to a basic sugary package of oats. These Qi’a Superfood packets have no sugar (the same size packet from Quaker Oats in Maple Brown Sugar flavour has 12g) Instead, I use a ripe banana, a sprinkle of cinnamon and plain almond milk to sweeten the taste. You could also add a drop of Stevia, or agave.
To boost the 6 grams of protein already in the packet, I added more Hemp hearts (roughly 3tsbp is 10g of protein) and also add in some Pumpkin seeds and Sunflower seeds which also have some protein and good healthy fats along with fiber & minerals etc.
Overall, this is such a simple way to add some more superfoods into your day, stay fuller for longer and you have the bonus of a warm breakfast without having to spend time in the kitchen.
